Well, 2020 has been a challenging time for pretty much everyone, right?
On the one hand, most of us have been physically stuck at home with some extra time on our hands.
On the other, the social and economic chaos have left many feeling stuck both emotionally and financially, trying to figure out ways to move forward. When obstacles or questions pop up, we’re not as able to turn to someone in the office or meet for coffee to talk it through.
I’ve certainly felt that way. And one of the needs I’ve observed for myself and others is not having a quick way to talk through reliable, usable solutions when such problems arise.
Enter Laser Learning
I’ve been noodling how I can help and have an idea that follows from my Old Dog Learning flagship program, Professional Learning Partnerships. I’m calling it Laser Learning.
You might have heard of Unlimited Laser Coaching. The gist is that the coaching consists of 15-minute sessions to address very specific questions or concerns.
What’s unusual for a coaching program is the “unlimited” part. You get to ask as many questions as you want for the length of the program, as much as a year.
Laser Learning with Tom - Beta
75% off the expected public launch pricing.
You get a full year of "All-you-can-eat"
That's just $1.36 per day for . . .
If you’re like me, you’re thinking that the word “unlimited” might seem a little bit unrealistic, maybe even counterproductive?
If you used it too often, you’d never have time to implement the “answers” you’d be getting. Sooner or later, you’d start feeling like you’re not getting anywhere again, or guilty about all the unfinished tasks you’d be accumulating, right?
So here’s what I’m thinking: Let’s work together on an “All-you-can-eat” Laser Learning model.
I’ve set up a calendar system that lets you schedule a Zoom meeting with me and identify your question. Note: our first meeting will be up to 30 minutes, so we can get to know each other and your overall goals, too.
From then on, each call will be a 15-minute laser-focused session to talk through your specific question. In most cases, the answer we uncover should lead to a task for you to implement.
Learning and Doing
That’s where the all-you-can-eat part comes in. In most cases, you’ll need to complete the task before scheduling your next session.
A big part of having an effective coach is being held accountable for doing the work, right?
Sure, we’d need to keep some flexibility. I know that for some questions, we might need to have 2 or more sessions in a row, with maybe some research and learning in between by both of us, before we could settle on an “answer/task” for you to implement.
But a general expectation of a question > answer > task-to-be-completed model will serve you best.

What can we learn together?
Here’s just a taste of the kinds of topics you might want help with:
- Getting unstuck in your career, entrepreneurial projects, or personal life
- Skills development (finding and using resources for re-skilling, upskilling, or “long life learning”)
- Online tools and platforms selection, setup, and strategies
- Book and ebook publishing, including Amazon’s Kindle Direct platform
- DIY information design, graphic design, home renovation, etc.
Basically, this Old Dog has covered a lot of ground over the years, both in my work and personal life. And more important, I’ve learned that almost anything can be figured out!
Expert / Not Expert
Which takes me into my philosophy on learning for a moment. One question I’ve heard is - why should someone pay me to learn new things?
Simply put, you’re not. Since my pricing is a flat fee for “all you can eat” access, it makes no difference to you whether I already know the answer to your question or have to look it up.
I’m adamantly NOT an “expert” in most things. I do see myself as an expert on figuring things out!
Since my days as a practicing lawyer, I’ve invested in formal training in Informatics (web design, analytics, social media) and certifications in Learning How to Learn and Positive Psychology. And I’ve applied my learning skills in my own work, building blogs, launching businesses, and consulting.
Together, we can develop your figure-things-out capacities, too.
From my past business endeavors:
PDF and Video Tutorials, Too
Another tweak I’m making to the standard laser coaching model flows from my “learning programs” rather than “coaching” bias: Some questions may be answered by me creating a PDF tutorial (with step-by-step instructions, graphics, or screenshots) or even recording a video tutorial. This would likely apply mostly to technical questions, where screenshots and over the shoulder demos can help greatly – and be used again, whenever you need them.
Perhaps you can see how the tutorial option will be especially valuable for you. For example, say your question is about designing a header for your YouTube channel. If you wanted to learn how to make your own, that would lend itself to me creating a video tutorial on, say, how to use the free Canva tools to do so.
But showing you how would also produce a header graphic for your use, both as your YouTube channel art for the time being and as a template for future re-designs created by you!
The idea would be to get those back to you within 48 hours (weekdays). You could request the tutorial option, or I might choose it. Occasionally, we might even decide certain questions need both a call and a video tutorial (possibly captured at the same time, then edited).
for Laser Learning with Tom
I’m looking for three learners for a heavily discounted, full year of “All-you-can-eat” Laser Learning.
Typically, coaches sell "unlimited" laser coaching for $1,997 per year, or up. When I'm ready for the public launch, I'm expecting to offer shorter programs of 3 or 6 months at similar market rates.
But, if you’d like to help me get my variation up and running, I’ll give you a full year for $497 – that’s $1.36 per day for … well, all you can eat!
